Message Trust me on this: when you're Nissan and you're designing an engine from scratch, if doing this simple mod provided a benefit they would have done it from the factory. They designed it that way for a reason, I just don't know that reason.

I'm thinking that they wanted the spark to be as close to the center of the combustion chamber as possible. Having it near the roof of the combustion chamber like that might not be a good thing.

Contrary to his claims that it will make combustion more efficient, it could possibly make one side of the flame front contact the roof of the chamber before the other side reaches the piston, wasting heat by conduction whereas before there was a buffer of unburned fuel/air around it since the flame emanated from a more central location. We just don't know- but I bet Nissan engineers know, and they installed longer spark plugs.

I don't claim to know the definitive answer, but I am suspicious of someone who claims they know something that contradicts the views of engineers with millions of dollars of test equipment at their disposal.
